Summer Men's Swimwear - What's your style?

Summer is in full swing in most parts of the world and that means beaches and pools everywhere are being filled to capacity!  So are you sporting the latest styles in men's swimwear to your favorite local?  There are so many great styles and brands it can be a bit overwhelming to decide what is best for you.  So we are here to help with some tips on how to choose the best in men's swimwear for yourself!

Choose what makes you feel comfortable

With so many different men's swimwear styles you may not know what you will feel comfortable in at the beach or out by the pool.  So make sure to ask yourself the following questions before selecting your swimwear this year!

1.  How revealing do I want my swimsuit to be?

2.  What suits my body type best?

3.  What do I feel most confident in?

Once you have some answers to these questions you'll be more prepared and be able to narrow your search for the perfect men's swimwear!

Know the different styles in men's swimwear

Men now have more choices than ever in swimwear styles and it is becoming more and more acceptable even in the US to wear smaller more revealing styles.  But remember wear the style that makes you feel the best about yourself.  Here's a run down of some of the most popular cuts to help you make an informed decision. 

1.  Boardshorts - Typically the longest cut with the leg extending past the knee.  The shorts normally have a lace up front and offer a mesh liner.  Great for beachwear and can even be worn as a coverup over a more revealing suit underneath.

2.  Traditional Swim Trunks - Not as long as Boardshorts these extend to about mid-thigh.  Most traditional swim trunks offer elastic waistbands with a drawstring up front.  These also offer a mesh liner and some offer pockets. 

3.  Short Trunk or 'Boardie' Trunks - These are a mix of the two styles and are very reminiscent of retro style gym shorts.  They have become more popular as of the last few years.  The leg is cut much higher and usually is closer to the top of the thigh.  Some are styled to even look like a traditional boardshort offering the same flat front style and lace up details.  These also typically offer a mesh brief liner. 

4.  Jammer - The Jammer is a cross between the longer leg boardshort and tighter fitting squarecuts.  Most Jammers also feature a low rise fit with the waistband being just above the pubic area.  Jammers are a main staple in competitive swimming but have found their way into the fashion men's swimwear world. 

5.  Squarecut Swimwear - Squarecuts are the boxer brief of the speedo world.  Typically made of spandex/lycra you can find a variety of colors or even graphic prints.  Squarecuts are not as revealing as the speedo cuts but you can find more risque styles that offer no liner.  Also for the very bold lighter colors in spandex/lycra offer varying degrees of transparency when wet.

6.  Speedo Cut Swimwear - A speedo cut swimsuit is one of the more revealing swimsuits without exposing your rear.  Wearing a speedo to some is like the equivalent of just wearing your underwear to the beach or pool but for guys that posses the confidence to wear these suits the variety is endless.  Speedos have become increasingly popular in the US and many designers have added speedo cuts to their men's swimwear collections.  

7.  Men's Thong Swimwear - For the most daring men you can also find a good selection of these 'bun' baring suits.  With cuts that vary in the pouch and strings that vary from a there to barely there these suits will give you less tan lines and plenty of looks!

The choices are endless but remember do what makes you feel the best and your summer at the beach or out by the pool will be a blast!

DJ Nick Bertossi | Sweat Under Gear | Big Roger Events

Vancouver BC CANADA June 20th, 2009 -This little corner of the world of ours has managed to provide some of the most talented and well respected people on the planet. Not only is Vancouver one of the most beautiful places to live, we’ve got talent to spare in the likes of local up and coming DJ Nick Bertossi, a new men’s underwear line by Sweat Under Gear and promoter Big Roger’s Events.

You may ask, how does this all work together? Recently I sat down with DJ Nick Bertossi who just completed a Sweat Under Gear fashion shoot and talked about him and his upcoming gig as the opening DJ for Brett Henrichsen (LA) for the Global Pride Nations Pride Party on Saturday August 1st at Mint Nightclub (9pm to 3am).

Nick grew up on Vancouver Island in a beautiful historic town called Ladysmith. Moving to the big little city (Vancouver) about five years ago he was able to embrace who he really was and started living his life as a gay man. His interest in DJing is recent. Four years ago on a foray into Montreal’s notorious club scene, Nick found himself at the world renowned Stereo on Ste. Catherine’s street amidst the gigantic throng of party goers all out to hear Victor Calderone during the infamous Black & Blue Festival.

“It blew my mind.” Nick tells me, “When I got home [to Vancouver] I immediately downloaded a little mixing program and started practicing. It inspired me.”

Fortunately for Nick, who was on a budget at the time, he had some incredibly generous friends who took him under their wing, bought a bunch of equipment and setup a dj booth in their loft for him to really practice on. Through this encouragement and opportunity Nick was able to hone his skills in a relatively short time as he started spinning at small local happenings soon after.

Sunil Sinha, co-owner of Big Roger Events (www.bigrogerevents.com), recalls how Bertossi was their first local DJ to play at their events which started New Year’s Eve of 2007/08.

“We love Nick.” Sunil states, “It’s our mandate at Big Roger Events to promote local Vancouver talent. We pair them with big names from out of town to give them the opportunity to play for bigger crowds.”

Talon Thompson from Sweat Under Gear (www.sweatundergear.com) literally blushed over the phone when I asked how Nick’s underwear shoot went the other day. “He was incredible. Very professional and uber hot.” Yes, uber.

Nick’s charm and sex appeal are hard not to notice, what I didn’t expect was his approachability and hint of back country shyness. I couldn’t help but like him. He’s got a good heart and a utopian vision of clubs and promoters all working together.

“If we all pooled our resources,” he muses, “then we could make create an incredible experience and everybody would win.”

Bertossi has been spinning quite successfully for the past three years with a residency with Jesse Creed at 816 (aka the World) and guest spots for local clubs and events like Celebrities, GMF, Winterpride, NUOVO and GLOBAL Pride. With Pride weekend looming on the horizon, Nick will be opening for powerhouse and Masterbeat DJ Brett Henrichsen (LA) for Global Pride’s NATIONS party. Asked what he though of Brett Henrichsen and the party he stated, “I’m looking forward to it and Brett is so hot, can’t wait to meet him.” I see puppy love on the horizon, hot sexy puppy love. Their chemistry will be one for the books and an evening of music not to miss.
